An engineer during gas safety check will make sure CO alarm present at right location of the property and is functioning properly. CO alarm detects the Carbon Monoxide gas which is produced when carbon fuel, for example natural gas or LPG is not burned completely due to improper installation of gas appliance, wrongly repaired or not maintained efficiently. Chimneys and vents shouldn’t be blocked for air passing through. Solid fuels, wood, coal, oil and petrol can also be the reason to produce carbon monoxide when they burn. CO gas is tasteless and odorless gas and only CO alarm detects it. It beeps when CO gas is detected. Carbon monoxide gas is very harmful and can lead to paralysis, brain damage or even death. It enters in your lungs and hence shifts in your blood killing your blood cells due to the lack of oxygen. Exposure to small amounts of CO gas can poison you.
